چکیده

We propose an analytical method for evaluating the TCP throughput performance in a wireless cellular network environment, where the slotted ALOHA protocol is adopted as a data link layer. By using our method, we show that improving throughput at the data link layer level does not necessarily lead to the TCP throughput improvement. Furthermore, we evaluate TCP throughput by considering transmission errors on the radio link. It is shown that when we introduce FEC as an error correcting method, we show that TCP throughput can be improved by selecting an appropriate error correction code with careful consideration on the overhead and the error correction capability according to the quality of the wireless channel.

Improving Bandwidth-power Efficiency of Homogeneous Wireless Networks Using On-meet Threshold Strategy (RESEARCH NOTE)

Over two decades, a problem of location dependent has been focused for improving the communication Bandwidth-Power Efficiency of homogeneous networks. The efficiencies of communication links are weakened by the Hidden Terminal Problem.  Thus we propose a Fine – Tune Strategy for analyzing the On-Off communication region. We were observed that the proposed technique had been able to track and mo...

Evaluating Multipath TCP Resilience against Link Failures

Standard TCP is the de facto reliable transfer protocol for the Internet. It is designed to establish a reliable connection using only a single network interface. However, standard TCP with single interfacing performs poorly due to intermittent node connectivity. This requires the re-establishment of connections as the IP addresses change. Multi-path TCP (MPTCP) has emerged to utilize multiple ...

Studies on Data Transport Protocols for Wireless Cellular Networks

Mobile Internet technology based on wireless cellular networks has been rapidly deployed over the last several years. In the Internet, TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) is used as a standard transport layer protocol. TCP was developed in the early 1970s and has been continuously improved. Though it was designed for a wired network, it has also been used for wireless networks but without enoug...

A Differentiated Pricing Framework for Improving the Performance of the Elastic Traffics in Data Networks

Rate allocation has become a demanding task in data networks as diversity in users and traffics proliferate. Most commonly used algorithm in end hosts is TCP. This is a loss based scheme therefore it exhibits oscillatory behavior which reduces network performance. Moreover, since the price for all sessions is based on the aggregate throughput, losses that are caused by TCP affect other sessions...

Performance evaluation and implementation of IP and robust header compression schemes for TCP and UDP traffic in static and dynamic wireless contexts

Modern cellular networks utilising the long–term evolution (LTE) set of standards face an ever–increasing demand for mobile data from connected devices. Header compression is commonly employed to minimise the overhead for IP–based cellular network traffic. In this paper, we evaluate the three header compression implementations used by these networks with respect to their potential throughput in...
